I finally bought myself a májiàng set. $40, which is not bad... nice good-sized tiles I guess. So yeah got a lot of people playing last night, drinking soup, and having a good time until the small hours of the morning. It's surprisingly addictive, and easier than you expect to learn. And everyone seems to want to, though usually they think it's the same as on the computer, but that's mahjong solitaire. Whereas the actual game requires 4 people - which is one of the benefits, since it gets everyone together! I brought my set home for easter, and everyone in the family is pretty hooked.
Oh the one thing is that the box smells like formaldehyde, which is a little off-putting.
I got the science camp job. Which is good except that it takes up 2 complete weekends for training, and I really really can't afford that considering I'm already wading in backlogged homework. But I guess that just means lots of late nights at the libraryyyyy.
Ai...
Oh well. I have like.... 3 more weeks of school. Ho-ly! And then exams for a month....
There is a Periodic Table up in our Common Room, for no particular reason. We were looking at it the other day, and no one, including chemistry kids like myself, could figure out what W was. Well, I shall inform you that it represents the element wolfram - better known as tungsten.
Hmm, Wolfram would be a cool name. I doubt I shall have biological children of any sort, though.
I finally saw I ♥ Huckabees. I quite enjoyed it though... I could see why some people wouldn't. I had been told several times that I resembled Jason Schwartzman's character, and although I had resisted that characterization, I suppose there were some aspects. Mostly though, I think many of the comparisons were drawn from the similar haircut I had at the time of release.
Unsurprisingly, it seemed this morning that the nu-winter was over - most of our snow cover had melted. Howevvvvver, by this evening, when I went back to the burbs for dinner with the family, it was snowing yet again. Really nice and flaky. But also really gross and wet.
This song is good!
Now ordinarily I wouldn't be so positive about a song that uses the word "Professorsaurus", but they are one of the best Welsh exports (in any area), so I'll let it slide... this time!
Toronto once again demonstrates his skill as a climatic quick-change artist, disappearing behind a screen of darkness for but a night and emerging changed from his near spring form into one of new winter again!
I must admit that though the ever-fluctuating season can be frustrating, it is ensuring that the snow is always new and white, and only rarely that horrid black crust and slush so characteristic of a winter city.
I am out of the funk I was in earlier this week. "There are other fish in the sea", I suppose. Whaaaatever.
I told 3 other friends last night. Less enjoyable - they reported being not as surprised as the first person I told. Sheesh, they could've at least pretended, haha.
I saw Atonement again. I'm glad. I rarely see movies or read books twice because I know I won't be able to recapture the feeling of the first time, but I noticed new details, and it was just as emotional as the first time. Well nearly - I did, after all, know the ending.
Dad is back from China! It sounds like it was an excellent trip, and I'm going home this weekend for the full run-through. And laundry.
Wow it is 2008. Holy, haha!
I decided to get back into keeping track of my life, but I decided that my old Livejournal, packed as it was with enormous, bloated rant entries just wouldn't do. And looking around Vox, it just seemed... nicer, you know?
So as part of the "resolution" of keeping this journal, I resolve to practise being positive about life in entries, and hopefully this will translate into me being less of a cynical asshole in real life!
Last night, I really did feel like this year is going to be really good. 2007 was really great too - I finally got to go away to university!! - but I think this year is going to be.... well maybe spectacular! And I'm really going to try to make it so.
Of course, I did wake up with a cold this morning, which seems to be trying to take the steam out of my optimism, but I will not let it get me down! Well I will let it get me down into bed - luckily for me, it seems that New Years Day is the day of the TV marathon, so I've had a lot of good mindless resting. For the past few hours, I've been skipping around between Mythbusters on 42, Corner Gas on 44, and Home Heist on 46. Thanks to my expert channel-juggling, I can feel like a good scientist, Canadian, and homo all at the same time!
I can't wait to get back to school. I do love home so, but really, the suburbs are a little stifling. I even miss the library! And I definitely miss all my housemates, and everyone at school.
Oh, and dinner's ready!
That's another thing I miss about school - the caf! Food being always available is a big plus haha!
One more week!
PS I am so impressed with Vox for saying "seabirds' Profile" rather than seabirds's!
